Black Friday Statistics

You might already know that 2021’s Black Friday is on the 26th of November, but does your shopping list include the statistics of the shopping event?

Whilst it’s widely agreed that everyone has heard, and at some point participated, in Black Friday, recent statistics show that interest for this holiday has actually dwindled. With the rise of random one day and one month discounts across major stores, the idea of price cuts isn’t so glamorous anymore. Beyond that, Black Friday has taken some serious hits during the pandemic - so whilst 93 million buyers bought products online in the Black Friday of 2019, will we see this trend continue?

About $7.4 billion was spent on Black Friday in 2019, an all time high that wasn’t beat when the slump of the pandemic arrived soon after. Yet, the holiday isn’t completely erased from the US calendar - the average adult plans to spend $400 on Black Friday sales, which underlines how we have a tendency to put some money aside to cross a few things off our shopping list. Which isn’t a bad idea - considering that average savings on Black Friday specials are 37%.

If you’re looking for a few more interesting trivia points to share over the Thanksgiving table, we have a few more Black Friday statistics for you below.

  • Around 54.9% of all sales on Black Friday are done by Amazon (no wonder they start their pre-Black Friday deals so early, right?)
  • Women and men are fairly equal in their Black Friday shopping - around 50.4% of women are Black Friday shoppers
  • Online shopping on 2019 Black Friday accounted for about 40% of all sales

We might not know what sort of statistics 2021’s Black Friday will bring, but we do know that the deals are forecasted to be bigger and better than anything we’ve seen before!
